Orphanage Visit at Rumah Syifa'

On 23 May 2009, PEERS organized a visit to Rumah Anak Yatim Syifa', located in Setapak as part of our contribution to the society. This premise is operated by a former teacher, Che Tom Ujang, 51, or better known as Mak Tom who uses her own funds as wells as private donations to provide a home and education for the orphans.

The orphanage housed 15 children between the age of 5 to 15. You will be deeply touched by the resilience of such young kids living without their parents and families and very few materiaistic pleasures. Imagine living without loved ones like some of us at times take for granted, watching these kids brings realism and appreciation towards the things and people we should always cherish.

Among the activities during the visit were Sharing Session by Mak Tom, Science Show from PEERS members, delightful performance by the orphans, gift presentation, and lunch.

Some things start out big, some small. But even the smallest thing can make the biggest change. No one knows what changes lie ahead, but one things is certain: our journey is not over. We can only hope that in some way, our time here will be remembered and that it will bring the much needed boost and attention that these children needed.

On behalf of the children, thank you very  much for your generous contributions and donations. May the good deeds continue...
